The Scottish Ambulance Service National Risk and Resilience Department is well established and acknowledged as an innovator in the fields of Emergency Preparedness and Special Operations. The Department is exceptionally externally focussed and has a wide range of productive relationships at UK, Scottish and local levels. Drivers for the department include public and political expectation, the consequences of legislation (such as the Civil Contingencies Act), plus greater involvement in intelligence led joint service operations and consequence management arrangements within Resilience, Special Operations and Security. The Department aims to inform thinking within the Service about the lessons learned from adverse events to deliver a co-ordinated, competent, effective and professional response during times of crisis. Increasing confidence in the integrity, quality and reliability of the Special Operations Response Teams is driving growth in demand for support for the specialist operations undertaken by partner agencies. The single purpose underpinning the work of the Department is focussed on bringing safe and effective care to the patient, regardless of their physical location by increasing the footprint of available care into challenging and hazardous environments. |

The Trossachs Search and Rescue Team is a Scottish Charity whose 36 volunteers are mainly drawn from the three emergency services, nursing profession and ex-Forces personnel. Based in Aberfoyle and at MOD Forthside, Stirling the team provides a rural lowland SAR capability including lowland search dogs that has been used by several agencies including Police Forces and HM Coastguard. We provide the USAR dog capability for Strathclyde and Central Scotland Fire & Rescue Services. Having operated the TSART Heartstart Scheme for many years, we are in the process with the Scottish Ambulance Service of setting up a First Responder Scheme in the Aberfoyle area.
